What is hormone therapy?

BioTE hormone therapy

Hormone therapy aims to correct hormone imbalances, optimizing the body’s hormones through the use of hormone containing gels, cream, pills, and pellets. Imbalances in one’s hormones arise in response to age, lifestyle, and illness. Hormones regulate physiology and behavior, and are produced naturally from the glands in the body. Two routes exist for hormone therapy : prescriptions of conventional hormones or prescriptions of bioidentical hormones. Conventional hormones are structurally equivalent, however, synthesized chemically in a laboratory. In comparison, bioidentical hormones are extracted from a biological origin, such as plants, which naturally mimic the structure of human hormones. Proper hormonal balance is needed to fight against mental diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, and to maintain a healthy immune system for fighting off infections.

What is BioTE hormone therapy?

BioTE hormone therapy uses bioidentical hormone-filled pellets inserted under the skin to deliver constant flow of hormone to the body. BioTE is a medical practitioner training company that partners with medical practitioners to share research, knowledge, and better hormone therapy methods to improve the quality of life of patients without over-medicating.

How does BioTE hormone therapy work?

Hormone delivery under the skin brings the advantage of delivering a constant supply of hormone to the blood, while bypassing liver modifications to the hormone as compared to oral ingestion of hormones. The BioTE approach uses compounding labs to guarantee sterility, potency, and bioactivity. Using compounding labs enables lower tolerance for hormone concentrations and avoids trial-and-error typically found when using commercially produced hormones having higher tolerances for hormone concentrations. Using under the skin hormone delivery in combination with compounding labs allows BioTE hormone pellets to be produced without fillers, such as gluten and dyes.

What is treatment for hormone therapy like?

Treatment for the BioTE bioidentical hormone replacement pellet consists of three steps:

  1. Pre-screening
  2. Pellet insertion
  3. Maintenance

Pre-screening involves extensive testing with your healthcare provider to evaluate your hormone therapy needs. Once a pellet prescription is available, nonsurgical insertion of the hormone filled pellet occurs under the skin, usually in the buttocks. Most patients are back to their normal routine one week after placement of a hormone pellet. Once inserted, blood tests routinely measure the serum concentrations of hormone. Typically, hormone optimization takes up to six months, but patients have reported feeling an improvement in four weeks. Once the pellet has been depleted it is absorbed and eliminated by the body and a pellet renewal is needed.

Risks & side effects of hormone therapy

Side effects can occur while using bioidentical hormones and most are reversible. Always consult your medical provider about possible side effects from your treatment plan and if side effects occur. Side effects can include:
